Diablo IV is sold in three layers: base game, expansions, and the bundle.

Expansions require the base game, and they are bought per platform. Blizzard’s FAQ is explicit: to play on both Xbox and Battle.net you buy it twice.

Sales change and each platform runs its own. Check the checkout price on the store you actually use; the table reflects 16 September 2026.

Three buying paths

  • Brand new: buy the Age of Hatred Collection. It is cheaper than buying the base game and expansions separately, and you get all eight classes and all three campaigns at once.
  • Already own the base game: buy Lord of Hatred, any edition. It unlocks Vessel of Hatred as well. On a single platform you do not buy anything twice.
  • Already own Vessel of Hatred: you only need Lord of Hatred. Upgrading editions does not re-grant items you already unlocked.

Common traps

  • Buying twice across platforms. Base game and expansions are licensed per platform, so switching means buying again. Cross-progression shares saves, not licences.
  • Assuming sales match. Steam and the console stores discount on different schedules, so prices can diverge sharply on the same day.
  • Expecting upgrades to re-grant. Blizzard’s FAQ states that edition upgrades do not re-issue unlocked items.

Game Pass subscribers are a separate case; see platform availability. For the content itself, see Lord of Hatred and Vessel of Hatred.

The Witcher 3 crossover: a skin, not a price change

Blizzard confirmed a crossover in the season 15 notes. To mark The Witcher 3 arriving on Battle.net, once The Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past opens for pre-purchase on Battle.net, anyone who pre-purchases it or buys it after launch gets a Geralt-themed skin in Diablo IV.

Three things to note:

  • It is a perk for people buying the Witcher 3 expansion on Battle.net, not a Diablo IV purchase bonus. Buying only Diablo IV will not trigger it.
  • Blizzard says “skin” without listing which slots it covers.
  • It does not change the Diablo IV price table above, so nothing there needs recalculating.
